Republican Eric Holcomb faces running mate deadline

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The new Republican candidate for Indiana governor is facing a deadline to select his running mate for the November election.

Whoever Republican Eric Holcomb wants to be his lieutenant governor candidate has until 10 a.m. Friday to file paperwork with state election officials. That is necessary to meet a 72-hour requirement before a Monday meeting of the Indiana Republican state committee to select the candidate.

Holcomb became lieutenant governor in March and was GOP officials chose him on Tuesday to replace Gov. Gov. Mike Pence. Pence is now Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate.

Holcomb has about 100 days for a campaign against Democratic candidate John Gregg, who narrowly lost to Pence in the 2012 election. Gregg’s running mate is state Rep. Christina Hale of Indianapolis.
