ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Board of Commissioners are recognizing longtime community advocates.

The board announced the establishment of an award that will honor Linda and Jerry Vandeveer. It’s to honor their volunteerism and community service work, according to the Allen County Board of Commissioners.

“The Linda and Jerry Vandeveer Impact Award” will be presented annually to an Allen County resident who has performed services for the community.

“The Vandeveers have always preferred to stay out of the limelight and wanted to focus to be on the cause or project they were working on,” Commissioner Therese Brown said. “Through the Impact Award, we wish to recognize those like Linda and Jerry who have had a positive impact without seeking recognition or reward.”

The Vandeveers are known for creating and maintaining the Allen County Law Enforcement/Firefighters Memorial, which is located on North Wells Street.
