Study to look at solving downtown parking woes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Parking in downtown Fort Wayne is becoming more and more of a precious commodity.

City officials said in a public meeting yesterday that while there are nearly 17,600 parking spaces downtown, only about 6,700 of them are in public lots, with the rest owned by private entities.

On days where there’s a big event, like a Fort Wayne TinCaps game, those spaces are all claimed within minutes.

The Journal Gazette reports the city is working on a parking and mobility study to meet the growing demand for downtown spaces, which is expected to only get worse as riverfront development projects wrap up and open to the public.
