Two arrested in Wabash County murder

WABASH COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Two men have been arrested in a Wabash County murder case in the death of Alexis Serrano.

36-year-old Jose Gaudelupe Maya-Sandoval of Fort Wayne and 33-year-old Gerardo Ruiz-Aviles of Indianapolis are each facing a charge of murder. Maya-Sandoval was arrested Friday morning in a traffic stop in Fort Wayne and is held in the Allen County Jail. Ruiz-Aviles is held at the New Castle Correctional Facility on unrelated charges.

Indiana State Police began investigating on June 28 of last year when Serrano’s body was found in a wooded area of the Mississinewa State Forest. His body was discovered near Wabash County Road 1100 South and Wabash County Road 450 West by people walking by to go fishing. Serrano was reported missing by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police on June 6.

Serrano’s death was ruled a homicide on July 1.
