Advocates Prep for Indiana Gay Marriage Battle…

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Supporters and opponents of gay marriage are lining up ahead of a Statehouse battle over whether Indiana’s gay marriage ban should be made part of the state constitution.

Indiana Equality and students from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law released a report Monday detailing 614 laws already on the books which they said would be locked in code through a constitutional amendment.

The ban has partially completed a rigorous process for amending the constitution. It won easy approval from lawmakers last year and must pass the Legislature one more time before going before voters in 2014.

Indiana Equality President Rick Sutton said he has little expectation of defeating the ban in the Legislature but has a statewide campaign plan ready for a potential 2014 ballot fight.
