Ball State Takes Action on 20 Charter Schools, 3 in Fort Wayne

Ball State University has pulled its sponsorship of seven Indiana charter schools plagued by long-running academic woes.

Three of the schools are located here in Fort Wayne and their contracts will not be renewed.  Those include: Imagine MASTer Academy, Imagine Schools on Broadway and Timothy L. Johnson Academy.

Office of Charter School Executive Director Bob Marra said in a statement today that a review of 20 of the charter schools showed that the seven schools’ “current success or progress isn’t sufficient.”

The university says its decisions were based upon a careful review of each school as part of its scheduled renewal process.

The affected schools have 10 days to request a reconsideration of the university’s decision.
