Bishop to Offer Mass in Place of Removed Priest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana bishop will offer Mass at a Fort Wayne Catholic church whose priest was removed last week because of a recent accusation that he sexually abused a child in Africa about 20 years ago while he was coach of a high school soccer team in Uganda. The Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades will offer Mass on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Hessen Cassel. Rhoades is bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The diocese says Rhoades removed the Rev. Cornelius Ryan from his post at St. Joseph Catholic Church-Hessen Cassel June 10 after receiving “a credible allegation of sexual abuse of a minor.”
