Cedar Point Announces New Roller Coaster

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) _ Ohio's Cedar Point says it plans to repurpose its 18-year-old Mantis roller coaster to create a new floorless coaster to open next year.

The Sandusky amusement park says the new ride will use the structure and track of the stand-up Mantis coaster. Park officials announced earlier this month that the Mantis would give its last rides in October.

The new roller coaster, named Rougarou after a werewolf-like creature in French folklore, will feature floorless trains and a 145-foot first hill. The Rougarou will reach speeds of 60 mph and will include the world's only vertical loop on a floorless coaster.

Cedar Point says the Rougarou will open in the spring of 2015.
