FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): With the recent creepy-clown epidemic hitting our area, we decided to ask the question – Will school kids still be allowed to dress up as clowns to celebrate Halloween?

The answer – more than likely, yes, students will still be able to wear the costume of their choice. However, WOWO News reached out to some local schools and learned, not many schools even have Halloween celebrations that include costumes.

Krista Stockman, Public Information Officer for Fort Wayne Community Schools, tells WOWO news the district does not typically have students participate in dressing up. However, if some of the district’s schools do decide to have a dress up day, administrators usually encourage a theme, “…such as historical figures or storybook characters.”

Meanwhile Stephanie Patka, Communications Director for the Fort Wayne – South Bend Catholic Diocese says, none of their High Schoolers dress up for Halloween, but the majority of their middle schoolers and elementary students do. She went on to say that there have been no talks about prohibiting what students can wear, but the Diocese usually encourages their students to treat the day as All Saints’ Day and to dress up accordingly.

With the recent stories about clowns popping up in the area, it still might be a good idea to hold onto the clown costumes until next year.
