Consumer Group Backing Planned Tipton Indiana Wind Farm

TIPTON, Ind. (AP) _ A consumer advocacy group says opponents of proposed central Indiana wind farms are spreading misinformation about the electricity-generating turbines.

The Citizens Action Coalition sent a letter to the Tipton County Plan Commission calling the arguments from opponents off-the-wall and unsubstantiated.

One wind farm developer last year finished building 125 turbines in Tipton County and neighboring Madison County, while some residents of Tipton and Howard counties are fighting plans by another company for nearly 100 more turbines.

Tipton County opponent Jeff Hoover tells the Kokomo Tribune that their data shows property value loss and health and safety concerns.

Citizens Action Coalition director Kerwin Olson says it isn’t clear who is paying for the research cited by wind energy opponents.
