Council Casts Preliminary Votes on Collective Bargaining

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Tension continues to build as city council voted 7-2 on an initial vote Tuesday to approve one of three ordinances that would end collective bargaining for Fort Wayne city employees.


The bill would end the union negotiation process for non-police or firefighters.Glynn Hines and Geoff Paddock, both democrats voted against measure.


Another democrat John Shoaff was forced by a technicality to vote with the Republican majority. His vote slows the debate down while it considers other ordinances. Two other bills, a ordinance covering police and fire fighters and another that would create one union for city workers were both temporarily tabled.



A final vote would come no early than June 10. With a promised veto by Mayor Tom Henry, the council would vote would be need on June 24 for an override it.
