<span style=”font-size: 18px;”>INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indiana man who was sentenced to death in the rape and murder of an 18-year-old woman has been given time to prove he's too mentally ill to be executed.
 
The Indiana Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a lower court to review Michael Dean Overstreet's claim. The justices said a U.S. Supreme Court decision makes it illegal to execute a person who is severely mentally ill.

Overstreet was convicted in 2000 of abducting, raping and killing Kelly Eckart of Boggstown in September 1997. Eckart was abducted and as she was coming home from work. She was found strangled in a ravine in Brown County with a bullet wound in her head.

Indiana Department of Correction spokesman Doug Garrison says Overstreet's execution hasn't been scheduled.
