Defense Wants to Move IU Student’s Beating Death

NASHVILLE, Ind. (AP): The defense attorney for a man charged with fatally beating an Indiana University student wants to have the trial moved to a different county.

The attorney for 49-year-old Daniel Messel of Bloomington filed the change of venue motion on Friday in a Brown County court.

Messel has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge in the death 22-year-old Hannah Wilson of Fishers. Her body was found April 24 near Brown County's Lake Lemon, about 10 miles northwest of IU's Bloomington campus. A roommate reported Wilson missing that day.

Prosecutors didn't immediately respond to the motion seeking to move the case. The next hearing on the charges against Messel is scheduled for July 22.
