The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has formed a SWAT team. Eight deputies were selected and completed more than 130 hours of training focused on handling high-risk situations beyond routine patrol work.
The sheriff’s office also purchased equipment specific to those responses.
Sheriff Brady Thomas acknowledged the additional time deputies spent training while continuing their regular duties.
The team will work with other area SWAT units when multiple agencies are involved.
