BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) _ A former southern Indiana sheriff's deputy is recovering from a grizzly bear attack last week while hunting in Wyoming.
 
The Herald-Times reports 50-year-old David Goodrich suffered a broken leg and abdominal puncture wounds during the attack in the Teton Wilderness.
 
Monroe County sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Pershing says Goodrich was transported back Tuesday to his current home in Lafayette after being hospitalized in Wyoming. Goodrich broke his leg while running from the bear, which then caught and bit him. A hunting guide shot at the bear and it left the area.
 
Goodrich was a Monroe County deputy for 12 years before resigning in 2011. He was honored in 2008 for swimming 60 feet in the dark to rescue a woman who had driven her car into Lake Monroe.
