Father files claim with state in toddler’s death

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The father of a 1-year-old boy killed in January has filed a claim with the state alleging the Department of Child Services failed to conduct a reasonable investigation after he reported his son was abused while in his mother’s care.

The Marion County coroner ruled Jayden Noel died from “multiple blunt-force traumatic injuries to the head.” Jayden’s mother and her boyfriend have been charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Noel called DCS last year to report his son had been abused and treated at a hospital. The Star reports DCS investigated that report, but “unsubstantiated” the allegation.

DCS spokeswoman Stephanie McFarland says the agency is reviewing the tort claim and is awaiting a formal response from the attorney general’s office.
