Fort Wayne, Ind. (WOWO) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of a basement fire on Riverside Avenue. Truck 1 reported a large two-story residence with light smoke coming from an exterior basement door.

Firefighters entered the four apartments and confirmed all occupants were out. Simultaneously, a crew entered the basement with a hose line and extinguished the fire. Other arriving crews discovered the fire had spread up to an interior wall and was extinguished before it spread any further.

Five occupants were able to exit prior to the arrival of the crews.

Crews remained on scene after the fire was extinguished to check hot spots.
