FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Foellinger Foundation has made a big donation to the Allen County Public Library’s summer learning program.
The money should be enough to keep the program running for three years, according to the News-Sentinel, which also reports that the Foundation has donated $4.7-million to the program since 1994.
The Library says the program serves as a “bridge” that keeps students mentally sharp between the end of one school year and the beginning of another.
Last year, 27,000 kids, teens, and adults registered for the program, putting in 51,000 hours of reading. 95% of the parents that responded to a survey about the program say their kids’ reading skills either stayed the same or got better.
