SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A federal judge has sentenced the former director of a northern Indiana town's library to 20 months in prison for defrauding the library out of thousands of dollars and spending it a health club membership and other personal items.
U.S. District Court Judge Robert Miller handed down the sentence to 46-year-old Scott Klingerman of Walkerton after he pleaded guilty last year to two counts of wire fraud.
Klingerman was the Walkerton Public Library's director from May 2010 to May 2013. At his sentencing Wednesday, Klingerman and prosecutors agreed he cost the library about $26,600 and the state about $6,200.
Klingerman told the judge he was wrong and there was no excuse for the way he behaved.
An Indiana State Board of Accounts audit found nearly $96,000 in misspent library funds.
