Fort Wayne Councilman concerned about higher Riverfront development cost

(Saige Driver/WOWO Radio)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Not everyone is sold on the Fort Wayne riverfront development plans unveiled by Mayor Tom Henry this week.

Council member Paul Ensley tells our Partners in News at 21Alive he’s nervous about a couple of parts of the plan, including the new price tag of $20-million, which is more than twice the $8-million cost the public was initially aware of.

He also thinks the new concept will compete with what the city already has at Headwaters Park, saying he doesn’t want to spend tax dollars on something that’s redundant.

Mayor Henry says the city will be looking for Regional Cities funding and donations to help cover the higher cost for the plans, which will be explored more in-depth with a public session on July 7th.
