FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne Police Department's ten K9s have received ballistic vests thanks to a nationwide Groupon event that has raised more than $39,000.

The “Groupon Goods Pet Collection” campaign to outfit police dogs with bullet-and-stab-protective vests ran in May to raise money through donations to buy the vests, and they awarded the Fort Wayne PD $10,500 from the fundraiser.

All of the department's vests will be embroidered with a dedication to an Oklahoma City Police dog who died in the line of duty last year bringing down a burglary suspect.
