INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Eric Holcomb is moving closer to announcing a run for Senator.

Holcomb is scheduled to make an official announcement Thursday afternoon in Indianapolis.   

Wednesday afternoon Holcomb resigned as chief of staff for Senator Dan Coats. A position he held since 2013. He is also the past State Chairman for the Indiana GOP.

Spokesman Pete Seat says Holcomb is gaining momentum. “His phone has been ringing non-stop. E-mail has been full. A lot of people are interested and encouraging him to run.”

Coats announced Tuesday he wouldn't seek re-election in 2016. Third District Congressman Marlin Stutzman says he’s weighing his options.
