Homicide-Suicide Investigation In Huntington County

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — Authorities are investigating a homicide-suicide after two people were found dead Tuesday night inside a residence in Dallas Township.

Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office were called to 6583 W. Maple Grove Road at approximately 9:56 p.m. after relatives of the property owner contacted Huntington Central Dispatch. Family members reported they had not seen the couple for some time, but their vehicle was parked at the home, which was not their primary residence.

Huntington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and discovered two deceased individuals on a lower-level floor inside the residence. Investigators said evidence indicated the bodies had been there for an extended period of time and that both individuals had suffered gunshot wounds.

Authorities identified the victims as Melanie R. Meyers, 51, and Kenneth L. Meyers, 54, both of Huntington, Indiana.

The initial investigation determined Melanie Meyers died from a single gunshot wound and her death has been ruled a homicide. Kenneth Meyers died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, and his death has been ruled a suicide. These findings were confirmed following autopsies conducted Wednesday morning at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.

The scene was secured, and investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Indiana State Police and the Huntington County Coroner’s Office.

The Huntington County Coroner’s Office extended its sympathies to the Meyers family and friends.
