Indiana defeats Rutgers 79-72

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) _ Max Bielfedt came off the bench and had a double-double, scoring 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting while grabbing 14 rebounds, to lead Indiana past Rutgers 79-72 on Wednesday in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

Kevin “Yogi'' Ferrell added 18 points and seven assists for the Hoosiers (11-3) and Troy Williams had 10 points and six rebounds.

Rutgers took its only lead of the game, 44-43, on a 3-pointer by Corey Sanders assisted by D.J. Foreman with 15:49 left.

Indiana answered on the following possession with Ferrell's layup that started an 11-0 run which Ferrell capped with a 3-pointer with 12:07 left in the game to make it 54-44.

Rutgers (6-8) was led by Omari Grier with 20 points, four rebounds and three steals. Greg Lewis had 13 points and nine rebounds and Sanders scored 17, dished out five assists and had two steals.
