MARSHALL CO. IND. (WOWO) A Marshall County man convicted of child molestation has been ordered to serve nearly four decades in prison following a court sentencing, according to officials.

A judge sentenced Daniel Kneifel to 40 years, with 38 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction and two years suspended according to Fox-59.

Sentencing includes supervision requirements

In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Kneifel to participate in sex-offender management and monitoring programs as part of his sentence.

Court records show the case followed a jury trial in which Kneifel was found guilty on multiple felony counts, including a Level 1 felony and a Level 4 felony.

Arrest followed earlier investigation

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department arrested Kneifel in 2023 after receiving multiple reports alleging sexual contact with a minor.

Authorities did not release additional details regarding the circumstances of the allegations.

Jury trial and conviction

After a two-day trial, a jury returned guilty verdicts on the charges brought against Kneifel.

Following the conviction, the case proceeded to sentencing, where the judge imposed the nearly 40-year prison term.

Next steps

Kneifel will serve his sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction. The case is considered closed at the trial court level, though standard appellate options may remain available under Indiana law.
