Indiana man launches campaign to halt shark show

CARMEL, Ind. (AP): A central Indiana man wants NBC Sports to cancel a show that pays contestants to kill vulnerable sharks.

AJ Mills tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1px2xuA) he was stunned to see a commercial for “Shark Hunters: The sharks are on the hook, and there's money on the line” on NBC Sports recently.

The show features three tournaments that award money to contestants who bring in dead mako, thresher or porbeagle sharks. All three species are listed as vulnerable by The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Mills has collected more than 85,000 signatures in an online petition and has created a Twitter account that's drawn support from people like Jacques Cousteau's grandson. He's also contacted NBC Sports.

He says many show advertisers have pulled their ads.
