Indiana Man Pleads Guilty in his 3-year-old Sons’ Deaths

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – The father of 3-year-old twins killed in a Tippecanoe County house fire has pleaded guilty in their deaths.

Brandon Abbott pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. He originally faced 13 counts, but the 11 drug-related charges will be dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Landon and Liam Abbott were killed in the April 5 fire near the town of Mulberry, about 50 miles northwest of Indianapolis. The boys were staying with their father, who escaped with burns.

Brandon Abbott told investigators he had been drinking and used prescription drugs and marijuana the night of the fire.

Sentencing for Abbott is scheduled on April 9. He faces up to 70 years in prison.
