Indiana State Fair Queen Being Crowned Next Week

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana will crown its 2015 State Fair queen this weekend.

The next queen will be chosen from among 85 county queen winners at a pageant that runs from Friday through Sunday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

This will be the first time that a queen is chosen in January.

The State Fair began crowning a queen in 1958. The pageant was held the weekend before the State Fair until 1994, when it was moved to the fair's final weekend.

The State Fair Board voted last year to move the pageant to January beginning in 2015 to allow the contestants more time to prepare.

Contestants will be judged on interviews, formal wear and professional wear.

The 2015 Indiana State Fair will be held Aug. 7 – 23.
