Ineligible Candidate for Richmond Mayor Withdraws From Race

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A candidate for mayor of Richmond who's ineligible to serve has changed her mind and withdrawn from the race.

Libertarian mayoral candidate Kamara Gard filed paperwork with the Wayne County clerk's office on Wednesday to remove her name from the Nov. 3 election ballot.

Gard had refused to withdraw on Tuesday despite learning her move last month to a new address just outside the city limits made her ineligible to serve.

Gard says she was withdrawing to seek the Libertarian nomination for state schools superintendent next year.

The clerk's office is contacting about 170 people who've already cast absentee ballots to see whether they want a replacement ballot.

Republican Kyle Ingram and Democrat Dave Snow are seeking to succeed three-term Mayor Sally Hutton.
