IU Trustees to Vote on Assembly Hall Renovations

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – The Indiana University board of trustees is scheduled to vote on design plans for renovating Assembly Hall.

The trustees are meeting at IU Southeast in New Albany on Friday. The Herald-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1I50rPv ) the renovation plans for the basketball arena call for replacing the existing south lobby, adding a box seat club on the concourse level that includes additional arena seats, improved lighting, renovated concessions as well as renovated restrooms.

Indianapolis philanthropist Cindy Simon Skjodt (scott) announced last year she was donating $40 million for the renovations. The building will be re-named Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and is part of an ongoing $150 million athletics capital projects campaign.

The renovation work will require moving spring graduation ceremonies for the next two years to Memorial Stadium and Mellencamp Pavilion.
