Kokomo Boy Dies in Apparent Pool Drowning

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) – Central Indiana police say a 2-year-old Kokomo boy died in an apparent drowning after falling into his family's swimming pool.

The Howard County Sheriff's Department says Daymian Newell wasn't breathing when medics arrived Monday at the family's home. He was later pronounced dead at a Kokomo hospital.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday to determine how the youngster died.

Police say Brandy Newell called 911 Monday afternoon and told dispatchers she had found her son unresponsive on the ground near the pool's steps.

A witness told police Daymian Newell had been playing in the yard with siblings. The other children entered the house, but soon realized Daymian was missing.

Two of the children found him floating face-down in the pool, pulled him out and then alerted their mother.
