Lafayette police: Reported abduction attempt false…

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Lafayette police say a reported abduction attempt on a 12-year-old boy never occurred.

Police issued a statement Friday that an investigation determined that there was no attempted abduction Thursday night as had been reported.

The boy and witnesses had told police the incident occurred Thursday night as choir members from St. Boniface Catholic Church were practicing at a downtown home.

The boy reportedly was coming out of a bathroom when a middle-age man he didn't know grabbed him and put his hand over the boy's mouth but the man fled after the boy screamed.

The police statement provided no further details on what their investigation found.
