INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A religious opponent of gay rights is trying to raise worries among supporters that Indiana lawmakers may try to stealthily enshrine LGBT rights into state law next month.
Advance America founder Eric Miller warns in a YouTube video that lawmakers when they gather Nov. 17 for Organization Day and powerful business interests may try a “sneak attack'' to pass a lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender rights bill. The video offered no credible evidence such a move was planned.
Republicans who control the Legislature forcefully denied Thursday that any such plan exists. House Speaker Brian Bosma took to Twitter, stating: “Let me be perfectly clear. There is no `sneak attack' planned.''
Miller could not be reached for comment.
Organization Day typically is reserved for speeches and administrative functions before the legislative session begins in January.
