Local Student Helps Save Life, Performs CPR at Metea County Park

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A local high school student helped save a woman's life by performing CPR at an Allen County park.

According to the Journal Gazette, 16-year-old Garrett Spires performed CPR on a lifeless woman at Metea County Park.

On Sunday afternoon, the soon to be Junior at Concordia Lutheran High School heard two boys calling for help at the park. When Garrett and his father noticed the boys standing beside the woman's body, they decided to step in.

Garrett began chest compressions and his father was going to begin rescue breathing. Before Garrett's father could assist with the woman's breathing she started to breathe on her own.

Before the incident, the woman was wading in the water. Another woman at the scene helped pull her out of the water and assisted with first aid.

The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. As of Tuesday morning, her condition is unknown.

Garrett's father is the Assistant Chief with the St. Joe Township Fire Department. Police in Allen County have reason to believe the unidentified woman likely suffered from some kind of medical condition.
