Marine from Southern Indiana killed in Afghanistan

DUBOIS, Ind. (AP) — Family members say a 21-year-old Marine from southern Indiana has died in Afghanistan.

Alec Terwiske’s family told The Herald that the lance corporal who served in a mobile assault company was killed Monday. Military officials didn’t immediately confirm his death Tuesday. A Marine spokesman says the military typically doesn’t release the identities of service members who have died until 24 hours after their family has been notified.

Terwiske was the son of Sandy and Alan Terwiske of Dubois, about 98 miles southwest of Indianapolis. Terwiske’s mother says she had spoken with him just last week.

Flags lined the town streets Tuesday morning as friends and family members gathered at the Terwiske home.

Alec Terwiske was a 2010 graduate of Northeast Dubois High School.
