New, Expanded VA Clinic Due to Open in Mishawaka in 3 Years

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) _ The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has approved construction of a new outpatient clinic in Mishawaka that will be more than three times larger than an existing clinic in South Bend that it's replacing.

The 65,000-square-foot clinic due to be completed in the spring of 2018 will take the place of an 18,000-square-foot facility in downtown South Bend.  The South Bend Tribune reports it will offer additional services such as expanded mental health care and laboratory services to northern Indiana veterans who now must travel downstate for such services.

Government data reviewed by The Associated Press earlier this year showed the South Bend clinic was among 50 VA hospitals and clinics around the nation with the highest percentage of appointments that took 31 days or longer to complete.
