Officers Who Ended Store Shootings Remain on Leave

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): Two northern Indiana police officers who ended a January supermarket shooting that left two people dead will remain on leave until police complete their investigation of the shootings.

Elkhart police Cpl. Jason Tripp and Cpl. Cody Skipper have been on administrative leave since they shot 22-year-old Shawn Bair on Jan. 15 inside a Martin's Super Market in Elkhart shortly after prosecutors say Bair fatally shot a customer and a store employee.

The Elkhart Truth reports that Lt. Mike Sigsbee announced Friday that the officers won't return to duty until the department completes its investigation of the shootings.

A coroner was unable to determine if Bair died from a gunshot to his heart fired by police or his self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head because those occurred nearly simultaneously.
