Officials Plan Groundbreaking for Evansville Medical Campus

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ Officials are working to finalize details on a downtown Evansville medical school campus, with plans to break ground in the coming months.

The Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1GzXdiX ) reports officials anticipate the groundbreaking will take place this fall. The campus is a partnership between Indiana University, the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville.

Indiana University vice president for capital planning Thomas Morrison says the university should get an updated design for the campus in August. He says the campus would be smaller than first envisioned.

The newspaper says Ivy Tech Community College wanted to move health classes to the campus, but didn't get the state funding it requested.

Morrison says the design will account for Ivy Tech's hopeful future inclusion. He says officials hope to open the campus by the end of 2017.
