INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Gov. Mike Pence has decided not to run for president in 2016, but seeking re-election doesn't clear up questions about his future.

Pence plans to formally announce his bid for a second term next month. Lingering unhappiness over his handling of the religious objections law could make him the first sitting governor to face a serious primary challenge.

Two Republican businessmen are talking about launching or supporting challenges, and some members of his conservative base accuse him of caving in to address criticisms that the new law would discriminate against gay people.

The race could expose the depth of GOP turmoil caused by debates over religious objections bills.

Republican pollster Christine Matthews says Pence must mend fences with the business community and a “fair chunk” of the GOP.
