Pence Set to Give Details of New School Proposals

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is expected to give more details on the education proposals he wants legislators to approve during their upcoming session.

The governor's office says Pence will speak about those proposals in a speech Tuesday at Indiana's original state capital building in Corydon.

Pence said last week that his 2014 legislative agenda would include expanding the state's private school voucher program to preschool-aged children. The Republican governor also said he would seek to expand access to charter schools.

The new proposals come as Democratic state schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz and the Pence administration have been locked in an ongoing fight over control of education policy.
