Police close case on 2003 murder after suspect’s death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Police have closed a 2003 homicide case, but not because their main suspect is in custody.

It’s because he’s dead.

28-year-old Joshua Salyer was shot to death in November 2003. His body was wrapped in cardboard and plastic and dumped in a recycling bin, according to our Partners in News at ABC 21.

Now, police say they know who did it, but 39-year-old Lawton Carter Jr. won’t face any charges because he died in 2017 from a drug overdose. Police say a witness came forward last year and identified Carter as the killer.
