Police shoot suspect in bizarre Muncie standoff

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Authorities say police in central Indiana shot and wounded a man who set a home on fire during a domestic dispute and pointed a gun at officers who responded.

State police say Muncie police and firefighters responded early Friday and the man’s girlfriend reported he was still inside the home where they lived. Officers tried to get inside, but the smoke was too thick. As firefighters arrived, police say the man came around the side of the home with a gun.

Police say officers told the man to drop the gun, but he refused. Officers shot the 56-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries. The Delaware County prosecutor’s office is expected to consider possible charges against him.
