Purdue Dance Marathon Tops $1 Million for 2nd Year

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP)- Organizers of the Purdue University Dance Marathon celebrated raising more than $1 million for the second year in a row with the weekend event.

Organizers say more than 2,000 Purdue students took part in the 18-hour marathon that ended Sunday and is a fundraiser for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. They announced collecting about $2,000 more than last year when the event nearly doubled its previous fundraising mark.

Debby Holcombe of Mulberry tells WLFI-TV (http://bit.ly/1zRjg3v ) it is amazing the Purdue students put in so much work to raise money for the children's hospital. Holcombe says she and her family have attended the dance marathon since it started in 2005 and that her now-15-year-old son has gone to Riley since he was an infant for treatment of cerebral palsy.
