Smoking Blamed in N. Ind. Fire that Killed Man

FLORA, Ind. (AP): Authorities in northern Indiana say a man has died after an apartment fire possibly sparked by that man smoking a cigarette while using an oxygen tank. The man's wife escaped the fire Wednesday in the Carroll County town of Flora, but police chief Paul Redmon says the man was inside the apartment until an officer rescued him. The man was taken to a hospital but died several hours later.
