SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ The South Bend Common Council has passed a measure that allows food trucks to operate in the northern Indiana city.

The council voted 9-0 Monday night to add food trucks to the list of businesses allowed in the city. Trucks would have to pay a $525 annual licensing fee and pass regular health inspections.

The ordinance says food trucks can park in a downtown spot for up to four hours, and also allows them in areas with limited dining options. Sarah Heintzelman with the city's Department of Community Investment says officials believe the trucks will operate more in outlying manufacturing areas than in downtown.
