State Giving $345,000 for Turner Company Project

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A state agency is awarding $345,000 to a company for the construction of a Terre Haute nursing home that's expected to net House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner $1.8 million.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. funds to Mainstreet Property Group originally were earmarked for the relocation of the company's headquarters from Cicero to Carmel, but the two sides later agreed to shift the money to the Terre Haute project.

Gov. Mike Pence placed a hold on the money last April after The Associated Press reported Turner's ties to Mainstreet Property Group. However, an IEDC review determined “no conflict of interest'' and released the money.

A House ethics panel recently determined that Turner didn't break any rules when he fought legislation that would have halted the Terre Haute project and others.
