Police had to use tear gas to end a five-hour standoff with a man who may have been suicidal.  According to the Journal Gazette, Whitley County sheriff’s deputies were called to a mobile home near Larwill after woman reported she had received text messages from the man saying he was going to kill himself.  Deputies went made entry into the home and the man reportedly pointed a gun at them. The man reportedly refused to come out until about 9:30 om when the tear gas was used.  The man was taken to a hospital for observation, then he was booked into the jail on a charge of pointing a loaded firearm.
