Williams County officer fatally shoots armed suspect

AINGER, Ohio (WOWO): A police officer in Williams County fatally shot a man during a tense standoff with police yesterday.

Williams County Sheriff Steven Towns tells WOWO news deputies were called to a home on US 20 in Ainger at about 10:15am after a man there had called an area health care facility and made threats to both himself and others.

When police arrived he was brandishing what appeared to be an AR-15 style rifle, and officers tried to engage in conversation with him, but talks broke down and at some point an officer shot the man. Towns was on the scene, but didn’t say what exactly led to the shooting.

An investigation is underway.
