INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ State and federal authorities say they've busted a cocaine trafficking ring that operated in one of Indianapolis' most prominent neighborhoods.
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett said Wednesday that a federal grand jury has indicted 11 people on charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
He says members of the ring stashed cocaine in houses in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood and sold them to other dealers on the city's northwest side. Butler-Tarkington includes Butler University, the Governor's Residence and the boyhood home of writer Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Prosecutors say if convicted, three defendants face mandatory life sentences and the others face sentences of 10 years to life.
They say the investigation included the seizure of more than 6 kilograms of cocaine, $198,000 in cash, guns, vehicles and marijuana.
