ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): If it seems like there are more restaurants being closed by health inspectors, you’re right.
Ann Applegate head of the Allen County Board of Health’s Food and Consumer Protection Division says 14 establishments have been temporarily closed so far this year, compared to 23 for all of last year.
She says more reports are coming in since they've started posting signs on the front doors of restaurants, making customers more aware.
She also says restaurants work quickly to come into compliance and in turn, inspectors are available 24/7 to re-evaluate. For example,
Asakusa on Lima Road was shut down Monday by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health, but the restaurant was approved to reopen Tuesday after re-inspection.
In the meantime the most recent closings were at the Mandarin and Dicky’s Wild Hare. Both were temporarily closed on Tuesday due to cockroaches.
